It’s winter season, aka super crazy A list game release mesh up season!
There’s already a junk load of game already out/coming out very soon, and it’s not even November yet. On my list of interest are three FPSes running head to head…
I may be biased, but I probably handed the crown to Team Fortress 2 before the competition began. It’s got style, it’s got perfectly balanced mechanics, and it runs just fine on low spec computers. A winner in all categories, really.
Now compare that to Enemy Territory – Quake Wars. If you haven’t heard of this game… that’s half of the problem the game is having. The game is suppose to be a mesh of Enemy Territory (aka the best free multiplayer FPS game released, EVER) and Battlefield. The Enemy Territory part of the gameplay puts nostalgia and tears in my eyes, but all the vehicle crap… I really wish they weren’t there. Most of it just serves to make the rest of the game look bad. I would have bought it for old time’s sake if it isn’t for the fact that it’s full price, has no single player component, and release itself on the same day as the Orange Box, which is literally marketing suicide.
And now Unreal Tournament 3’s demo finally came out. And the damn thing crashes my computer on startup. And then I started the game… oh god. If Team Fortress 2 is the epitome of having clean and informative art, UT3 is the epitome of excessive post processing and visual clutter. The whole thing is a wreak. For the first time in a long time, it hurts my eye to try and understand what I’m looking at, and it’s really hurting the gameplay since Unreal is suppose to be as fast paced as they come. As it stands, I can’t make out if that glowing blob is suppose to be a health pack or some flak cannon ammo or someone else’s biogun goo. And they brought back the old UT spawn-deaths. Oh god, the agony of spawning into someone else’s whatever that instantly kills you. The only upside is that the engine seems decent, but I’m not really sure about how it performs online since I’ve never been able to get an online match going…
Overall, UT3 is really, really disappointing. All that wait and hype and what comes out is a complete mess. I really feel like I want to stick around current gen for as long as possible before my eyeball explodes to all the bloom from next-gen gaming.
